TID Rollover - Information

TID Rollover - Information

TID stands for Token Identifier:

The Token Identifier is a 24-bit field, contained in STS compliant tokens, that identifies the date and time of the token generation. It is used to determine if a token has already been used in a payment meter. The TID represents the minutes elapsed since the 1st of January 1993. The incrementing of the 24-bit field means that at some point in time, the TID value will roll over to a zero value.  All STss’ prepayment meters will be affected by TID rollover.

The TID rollover (upgrade) changes the token system on your prepaid meter from STS 1 to STS 2. STS 2 is the new global format. After your upgrade, all tokens purchased will automatically be in the STS 2 format.

After November 2024, only STS 2 tokens will be available.

The owners/residents will carry out the upgrade. We have developed an upgrade website which guides the resident and generates the meter specific tokens.

https://upgrade.stss.co.za/
  1. Each owner/resident will be emailed when the upgrade is initiated at the complex.
  2. All tokens bought before the upgrade must be inserted onto the meter before the upgrade is done.
  3. The upgrade will not affect the credit on the prepaid meter - the credit will be retained.
  4. Each pre-paid meter will be issued 3 tokens via our TID upgrade website. There will be 2 Upgrade tokens and 1 test token.
  5. All 3 tokens must be inserted into the meter in sequence for the upgrade to be successful.
  6. The are no costs associated with the upgrade tokens. The test token adds 0.1kWh to the meter and will be charged to the wallet.
  7. The upgrade period is between March 2024 and November 2024
